Itinerary

You will be picked up by our driver and driven southwest to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Stop at the Equator statue along the Masaka highway for photos and a coffee break at the Equatorial Café. Continue to Queen Elizabeth with a lunch stop along the way. Upon arrival, check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast at 7:00am, meet your porters and guides to begin the hiking journey. Move through banana plantations and Bakonjo homesteads towards the foothills. The trail follows River Mubuku through steep slopes and rocks. Cross River Muhoma, pass fern-covered slopes and Podocarpus forest, finally reaching Nyabitaba Hut where you will spend the night.

After breakfast at 7:00am, continue through the forest below the Bujuku and Mubuku rivers, traversing steep moss-covered slopes to reach Nyamileju rock shelter. From here enjoy abstract views of Mount Speke and Mount Stanley. Pass through heath and moorland to arrive at John Matte Hut in the early afternoon. Lunch, dinner and overnight at the hut.

Up early at 7:00am, leave John Matte and cross the Bujuku River to the lower Bigo Bog, famous for giant lobelias. Jump from tussock to tussock across the bog to reach the upper Bigo Bog, which leads to Bujuku Lake. From here view Mount Baker to the south and Mount Stanley to the west. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Bujuku Hut.

After breakfast, the trail ascends from Bujuku through the bog west of the lake. Pass through the Groundsel Gully as it climbs to the Groundsel Elliot Pass. Use a metal ladder to climb to the top of the valley. The trail splits — the right leads to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep ascent, while the left leads to Scott Elliot’s Pass down to Lake Kitandara. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Elena Hut.

Early breakfast at 7:00am as you prepare for the summit climb. Depending on weather, it can take up to 4 hours to reach Margherita Peak. The climb is tough through slippery glaciers and extremely cold conditions. Proper shoes, gloves, headgear and ropes are required. Climb in a group with guides for safety. Upon reaching the summit, touch the stone crown of Mountain Rwenzori. Descend to Kitandara Hut for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, climb from Kitandara following the Guy Yeoman Hut trail. Spread out steeply across headwalls to the Mount Baker base, continuing along the mountainside to Fresh Field Pass. On clear days enjoy views of Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. Descend across muddy terrain to Bujangolo Rock Shelter. Dinner and overnight at base camp.

Breakfast at 7:00am. Descend through rough and muddy terrain, vertical mud and steep rock until you reach Nyabitaba Hut. Dinner and overnight at the hut.

After breakfast at 7:00am, continue descending to the Nyakalengija trailhead through gentle slopes and muddy paths, arriving around midday. Have lunch in Kasese with local dishes, then depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park viewing wildlife along the way. Enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, viewing elephants, hippos, buffaloes, giraffes and numerous bird species along the shores. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
